Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Kanga Routine ("we", "us") is a math practice app and website for learners from elementary through high school. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the extra protections in place for accounts belonging to children under 13.
What we collect
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email/password, we receive a unique account ID and, for non-child accounts, an email address, solely to authenticate you.
- A handle, not your name. Every account gets a short, auto-generated or self-chosen handle (e.g. "SwiftKangaroo42"). This handle — never your real name — is the only identifier ever shown publicly.
- Practice data. Which problems you've seen, your accuracy, streaks, XP, and grade level, so lessons can adapt to you.
- Class membership. If a teacher gives you a class code and you choose to join, we store a reduced-disclosure name you type in yourself (first name + last initial, e.g. "Ava B.") and your XP, visible only inside that one class's leaderboard.
What we never collect
- No full legal name, photo, address, or phone number.
- No email address for accounts flagged as belonging to a child under 13.
- No advertising identifiers, and we do not run ads.
- No analytics tracking for child accounts.
Accounts for children under 13
If you tell us you (or your child) are under 13, the account is marked as a child account. These accounts:
- Never collect an email address — sign-in happens through a parent/guardian's Apple or Google account, or anonymously.
- Only ever display the auto-generated handle publicly — never a real name.
- Have analytics fully disabled.
- Cannot create a class (only join one with a code), since creating a class is reserved for teacher/older-student accounts.
- Require parental confirmation before certain features unlock, where applicable.
A parent or guardian can request deletion of a child's account and all associated data at any time by using the "Delete Account" option while signed in, or by contacting us (see below).
Class leaderboards
The global leaderboard (when visible) only ever shows handles — never real names. Joining a specific class with a teacher's code is the one exception: the first-name-plus-last-initial you type in when joining is shown only to other members of that one class, never anywhere else.
How data is stored
Practice progress and class data are stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) under your account's unique ID. We don't sell or share this data with third parties, except the infrastructure providers (Firebase/Google Cloud, Apple, Google Sign-In) necessary to run the service.
Your choices
- Log out signs out of the cloud account on that device; local progress stays put.
- Delete account removes you from every class, deletes your cloud account, and erases your progress.
Contact
